Reports To: General Manager & Exploration Manager
Position Overview:
The Core Shed Manager plays a critical leadership role in supporting and optimising day-to-day operations and core production. This position involves managing core shed staff and ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and continuous improvement across all support functions.
Effective people leader with a proactive approach to production, problem-solving and a strong focus on team development, compliance, and process excellence.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership & Staff Management
o Lead, mentor, and manage a team of Core Shed Technicians
o Manage the day-to-day running of the core shed and the Technicians
o Excellent time management is an important aspect for all tasks and projects.
o Conduct regular check-ins and performance reviews with direct reports.
o Provide guidance and support to the Operations Manager and their team.
o Set clear KPI’s and performance expectations for staff and monitor results.
o Identify training needs and implement development plans to close skill gaps.
o Work with the Human Resources Manager to recruit, hire, and onboard field
staff to support exploration activities.
o Work closely with and develop a cooperative relationship with the geological
team and consultants
Operational Oversight & Safety
o Ensure all operational activities are carried out safely per procedures and
WorkSafe standards.
o Conduct regular audits of all work areas to ensure safety, compliance, and
functionality and report the findings of these audits to the General Manager.
o Foster a culture of safety and accountability throughout all team levels.
o Manage operational auditing and reporting.
o Manage security across the core shed
o Participate in the development of technicians, policies and procedures
o Additional duties as required and requested by the General Manager and
Exploration Manager
Process & Budget Management
o Develop, manage, and report on the Core Shed budget, ensuring cost-
effective resource allocation.
o Drive the continuous improvement of operational workflows, procedures, and
administrative efficiency.
o Manage the KPI - safe, and timely processing of drill core daily—KPI: “What
gets drilled gets processed.”
Logistics, Consumables & Sample Management
o Manage stocktakes, resources, and materials required for exploration
operations.
Compliance & Monitoring
o Commitment to ensure workplace safety and continuous improvement is done
promptly
o Return to work Coordinator
Qualifications & Experience
At least 5 years of experience in a supervisory or management role, including
leadership and team management responsibilities. (Explorations and Mining
management experience will be viewed favourably)
Have a minimum of 5 years; experience within the mining industry, preferably with exposure to diamond drilling (preferred but not required).
Strong leadership and decision-making skills with the ability to manage and motivate a diverse team.
In-depth knowledge of safety regulations, and industry best practices.
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
Ability to work under pressure and handle multiple priorities simultaneously.
Certification or degree in management, OHS, training (preferred but not required)
Strong computer literacy including Microsoft office
