Financial Accountant – SXGC (Mining/Explorations)
Drive statutory reporting, uplift controls, and partner with the CFO in a growing gold and antimony resources business.
About SXGC:
SXGC is a mining/exploration organisation focused on safe, efficient and ethical operations. We’re building a high-performing finance function to support decision-making across the business.
The Opportunity:
Reporting to the Finance Manager and working closely with the CFO and leadership team, you’ll deliver high-quality financial reporting and maintain a robust control environment. You’ll own statutory reporting cycles (quarterly, half-year and year-end), support month-end close and consolidation, and help evolve our ERP landscape (currently Xero; transitioning to Pronto ahead).
What you’ll do:
• Partner with the CFO and key stakeholders to contribute to SXGC’s financial vision and commercial excellence.
• Prepare Australian statutory accounts (quarterly, half-year, year-end) for submission to our Canadian parent entity.
• Run core month-end activities: intercompany oversight; review and post technical journals; review balance sheet recs; maintain the group consolidation schedule.
• Review monthly costs and investigate variances; provide department managers with monthly variance analysis.
• Work with the CFO to address judgmental accounting matters with the CFO (benchmarking, regulatory compliance); draft accounting position papers, policies and procedures.
• Coordinate external auditors and support the full-year audit.
• Develop strong ERP capability in Xero and assist with administration; help prepare for the transition to Pronto.
• Coordinate inputs for the annual report.
• Identify and deliver process improvements across the group finance environment.
• Keep internal controls, finance policies and procedures current and effective.
• Role model SXGC values and maintain high standards of health, safety and security.
Who you are:
• Degree in Accounting/Commerce/Finance and CPA or CA (completed or near completion).
• 2–3 years’ experience in financial accounting and analysis; Resources or Big 4 experience ideal.
• Hands-on with month-end close, consolidation and financial statements (quarterly/half-year/year-end).
• Strong grasp of technical accounting standards; exposure to a mining/resources environment is required.
• Advanced Excel and solid Microsoft Office skills.
• Familiar with ERP systems (Xero or Pronto).
• A clear communicator with strong analytical skills, high attention to detail and a continuous-improvement mindset.
• Proactive, collaborative and resilient—able to present to varied stakeholders and adapt to change.
• Demonstrates integrity and aligns with SXGC’s principles, ethics, values and Code of Conduct.
Why join us:
• Influence the finance roadmap alongside the CFO.
• Lead end-to-end statutory cycles and meaningful improvements.
• Be part of an organisation committed to safety, accountability and professional growth.
